From the hotel, you will visit the morning Phosi Market is by far the biggest market in Luang Prabang. Three quarters of it is covered, there are several hundred merchants of all kinds proposing a large variety of products. You can find vegetable gardeners as well as small stalls selling clothes (always in the Chinese style), merchants for health products, dried buffalo skin, local tea, school materials, hardware, etc.
Afterwards, we will visit the ancient town’s most highlighted sites, including:
Vat Xieng Thong or Temple of the Royal City- one of the most important of Lao monasteries and remains a significant monument to the spirit of religion, royalty and traditional art.
Vat Senna – literally means “Temple of a 100 000 treasures” also one of the most beautiful temples of Luang Prabang
Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre (closed on Monday) located in a historical building preserved by UNESCO. The exhibition here consists of traditional clothing, religious artifacts and daily working tools of Lao minorities that will help you understand more about their lifestyle and traditions.
In the afternoon, pay a visit to the Royal Palace which is now the National Museum built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. In 1975, communist government overthrew the monarchy and the palace was then converted into a national museum. The museum is an ideal place for visitors to learn more about Lao history and culture.
In the late afternoon, it’s time for sunset moment on the Phousi Mountain where you also can have a nice panorama of the city. Leaving here, on the way back to hotel, we will stop to visit the H’mong Night Market where you can find a lot of souvenirs in traditional style of Laos.
